The weed store in the City must’ve leveled up and found a new supplier because the last handful of strains I’ve had were absolute fire. For a little while there, I wasn’t sure if there was truly a difference between the tiers.
I’ve noticed some strains, like the Obama Runtz or the Wedding Cake, moving across the different tiers. I also tried the Tier 5 shakes and wasn’t impressed with the results. The last month or so, the owners claimed the new shipments were stronger and, of course, I was suspicious. Were these new strains really “stronger”?
Well, I’m glad that I maintained an open-mind because I thoroughly enjoyed the last three strains I’ve gotten. The Northern Lights came with big dense nugs and had a sweet and earthy taste that I really liked.
Cherry Gelato Hybrid Strain Overview
THC: 14% | Effects: relaxation, euphoria, and creativity |
Strain: Hybrid | Good for: anxiety, stress, depression |
Terpenes: Caryophyllene, limonene, and pinene |
The Mochi, though, was more flavorful and I couldn’t get enough of it. The strain was along the same quality as the Northern Lights, but I absolutely loved the sweet, citrusy flavor. I was sad to see the Mochi was sold out when I returned because I definitely would’ve bought half an ounce. The only strain in Tier 2 the store had was Cherry Gelato and boy, did the surprises just keep on coming.

Much like the Northern Lights and Mochi, the Cherry Gelato has thick dense nuggets. They were dark green with bright reds and deep purples. The nuggets broke up beautifully and the tantalizing smell lingered for a while after putting away the bag.
Cherry Gelato Is a Black Cherry Funk & Acai Crossbreed
I thought the Cherry Gelato was a great, well-rounded strain that didn’t make me too tired or too energized. After the research, this makes sense since the strain is a hybrid. I enjoyed the powerful effects of the Cherry Gelato and was surprised to discover the strain only has about 14% THC, according to Leafly. It’s also a crossbreed created by combining:
- Black cherry funk (hybrid)
- Acai (hybrid)
In addition to the traditional research profiles I’ve been reviewing all along, I’ve decided it was time to start including some terpenes, as well. After several discussions with others in the cannabis industry, I’ve realized terpenes are more important than I thought. The Cherry Gelato did have two of the same terpenes as Northern Lights and Mochi, the Caryophyllene and limonene. The strain had a different terpene too though: Pinene.
The Limonene terpene is known for its citrusy flavor and can also have antioxidants, antifungal, anti-inflammatory, and antibacterial properties. The Caryophyllene has a spicy or peppery flavor and can also have anti-inflammatory properties. Pinene terpene has a pine scent and is known for its antibacterial, antioxidant, and anti-inflammatory properties.
All these properties together make this strain ideal for treating stress, anxiety, and depression. It also produces feelings of relaxation, euphoria, and creativity.
Cherry Gelato Strain Personal Rating

Honestly, I had to physically stop myself from giving this strain 10s across all boards. Even the categories I was a little iffy on, like Quality, didn’t seem to matter after the flavor and the high surpassed all the other strains I’ve tried. But I recognize that I will continue to try other strains and I don’t want to get ahead of myself by potentially over-scoring the strain.
With that being said, this is obviously one of the top strains I’ve had. Before this one, my favorite was the Ghostface, but now I’m definitely having second thoughts. So when it comes to the Appearance, Aroma and Flavor, all three categories scored a 9.5 out of 10. The sweet aroma was so powerful and it reflected with each inhale. I also thought the deep reds and purples were a beautiful complement to the dark greens mixed in with these nuggets.
The Burn stayed at an 8.5 like the Mochi. It was smooth and burned evenly as long as I rolled it appropriately. The Quality also remained an 8. There was about the same amount of stems as the Northern Lights and Mochi, but the buds did crumble into a dust that was lovely to manage.
Then that leaves the High Strength, which ranked a 9.75 out of 10. Again, I wanted to leave some room for margin of error or for the potential for other strains to blow me away, but this strain was definitely top notch. Just a few pulls in would have me feeling lovely. I just couldn’t get enough of it.
Final Conclusion
You know where I’m going with this… I would 100% recommend this strain. If when I go back to the store, they have some more, I will definitely purchase it again. I have no complaints, this was the perfect strain. It accompanied me well throughout the days. It didn’t slow me down and did I mention it tastes amazing? I’ve come to learn that I do enjoy most Gelatos, but this Cherry Gelato was absolute fire.
