It was the week after my birthday and time for my next trip into the City. I also celebrated Mother’s Day so needless to say, I smoked a lot of the Haze and Green Crack and was ready to reup that weekend. I made it into the City, completed a few errands and ran to the Smoke Shop.
One quality I love about the City compared to the Country area is the nightlife. The Shop in the city will be open sometimes until midnight, meanwhile I have to make sure I’ve completed most errands before dinner time in the Country.
Although the store was open late and I was able to restock, they didn’t have many options to choose from. In fact, they only had four strains and one was the same from the last haul: the GG4. I also forgot to take pictures and prep for the last strain, so it’s really like I only had two options. Let’s start with the less impressive one of the two: Tropical Cherry.
Trop Cherry Overview
THC: 24% | Effects: Energetic, talkative, euphoric |
Strain: Sativa-Hybrid | Good for: depression, anxiety, pain |
Terpenes: Caryophyllene, Limonene, and Linalool |
That’s not to say this strain wasn’t still good, but aside from its coloring, this strain was pretty average. However, after trying the Cherry Gelato a couple of months prior, I had higher expectations for this strain. I saw the resemblance in the color. Much like the other Cherry strain, this had dark purples and reds. The hairs were light red and the nugs where covers in frosty white crystals.

The nuggets were also pretty big, like the Cherry Gelato, but it didn’t break into a fine dust the same way. Instead, the nuggets were a little more on the fluffier side. The smell and taste had a similar fruity flavor, but it also wasn’t as strong as the Cherry. On top of that, it also wasn’t as strong as the second strain I bought for that haul.Â
Trop Cherry Is a Tropicana and Cherry Cookies Hybrid
Overall, though it was a good strain and I enjoyed it. According to Leafly, Trop Cherry is a Sativa-heavy hybrid with about 24% THC. It’s created by crossbreeding,
- Tropicana CookiesÂ
- Cherry Cookies
In addition to the traditional research profiles I’ve been reviewing all along, I’ve decided it was time to start including some terpenes, as well. After several discussions with others in the cannabis industry, I’ve realized terpenes are more important than I thought and as I’m getting more familiar with the terps, I am realizing why some strains stick out more to me than others.
When it comes to the Trop Cherry, this strain contains the Caryophyllene, Limonene, and Linalool terps. The Caryophyllene has a spicy or peppery flavor and can also have anti-inflammatory properties. The Limonene terpene is known for its citrusy flavor and can also have antioxidants, antifungal, anti-inflammatory, and antibacterial properties.Â
Linalool has a floral taste and antimicrobial, sedative, and anti-anxiety effects. All these properties together make this strain ideal for treating depression, pain, and anxiety. This strain is also known for making smokers more talkative, energetic or euphoric.
Trop Cherry Personal Rating

I have to admit, the more I experiment with the strains and become more familiar with them, it’s getting easier to tell them apart, while also noticing the similarities. In general, I’m not the biggest fan of cherries, but I do notice that I enjoy the Cherry strains and I especially love the deeps purples they all seem to have. So for the Appearance, Burn, and High Strength the Trop Cherry strain earned a solid 8 out of 10.
The colors of this strain were beautiful, and the burn was nice and smooth. As for the Aroma and Flavor, Trop Cherry earned a 7 out of 10. I did expect the sweetness to be a little stronger, especially if I were to compare it to the other Cherry strains. The Trop Cherry was still tasteful and smelled delicious. Then for the Quality the strain earned a 7.5 out of 10. There were a few more stems than I would’ve expected, but no seeds and it broke up well.
Trop Cherry Final Conclusion
I did enjoy the Trop Cherry, but I wouldn’t say it’s one of my favorites. I would recommend it to others, especially if they happen to enjoy Cherry strains and I would purchase this again if it was on sale or one of the few strains left over. It was great overall, but I would probably opt for the Cherry Gelato over the Trop Cherry for personal preference.
