When I said I wanted to step out of my comfort zone and try new products, I most certainly didn’t expect my taste buds to expand as quickly and in the ways that they did. I have to admit, starting this blog has opened a lot of new doors for me. It’s also turned me into a person I’m not sure I recognize – in a good way, anyway.
So today’s review is a little different. In the past, I’ve mainly reviewed actual cannabis or cannabis infused products. Today I will be reviewing a tool: the LOOKAH Mini Unicorn.
Let’s back up a moment. Before starting this blog my experience with edibles were minimal and my experience with dabbing was nonexistent. Today, in this present day, I eat edibles and dab on the regular basis. My experience with dabbing has improved tenfold and I owe it all to this little dab tool.
At first the LOOKAH looked intimidating, and I wasn’t sure how to get it to work. Now I like to think of myself as a pro. Assembling the e-rig is simple. The bubbler (top portion) has a magnetic bottom that attaches to the bottom portion. Take off the bubbler and you have access to the coil chamber.

Once you put the coil in, put a bit of the wax right inside the coil and start the preheat function by pressing the circle button five times. After the wax heats up, you can hold the button and inhale. If you want to change the temperature (or strength) of the hit, press the button Two times to go from green to blue and blue to white.
Once I got the hang of it, I found the LOOKAH Mini Unicorn easy to use and assemble. Once coil lasted me several weeks, even with long consecutive hits overall, this reminded me of just a massive vape and I realized I was silly for avoiding dabs all these years.
My major complaint would be how easily the glass seemed to clog up. However, disassembling and cleaning the bubbler was easy enough. Simply remove the bubble from the base and soak it in a 1:1 rubbing alcohol and water ratio. To clean the bottom portion, use soaked alcohol tips to clean around it.
The other complaint I have is durability, although this is likely more my fault than anything else as I can be really clumsy. Admittedly the LOOKAH fell on its side on tables. It never shattered but I guess there was a crack in the glass and after removing the top bubbler one day, the glass broke off.
Note to self: grab bubbler from base, not glass.
Mini Unicorn Replacements and Coils
Anywho, finding a new bubbler was simple and cheap enough. I ordered the top, bubbler portion from E-nail and it arrived within in less than a week.
However, there’s something to keep in mind when it comes to these rigs. It’s not a drawback for me, but it can be for others. The coils need to be replaced every so often, similar to vapes packs that you can build and modify. This might make the equipment expensive for some.
However, I found several packs also on E-nail for what I thought was pretty reasonable. I also discovered four types of LOOKAH Quartz coils: A-D, each with its own unique quality.
- Type A: Long lasting and better flavor
- Type B: Better vapor and cloud production
- Type C: Wax-saving (place wax in middle for best results)
- Type D: See-through so you can view how much wax is left
LOOKAH Unicorn Mini Personal Rating
Admittedly, I’m still trying to think of a good rating scale for equipment, so for now I’ll give you a quick rundown of the pros and cons.
I like how portable the device is, but it’s also very fragile. It’s easy to use once you understand the setup, and it’s great for beginners. I also think that vapers would have an easy time adjusting to using the Unicorn. Disassembling and cleaning the mini Unicorn was easy but perhaps not intuitive for beginners. It also gets clogged and dirty often, so it’s better to learn how to clean the dab rig sooner rather than later.
Overall, I would recommend the Mini Unicorn, especially for beginners. If you’re intimidated about using concentrates or dabbing, this is the perfect tool. Just be careful with the glass. LOL.
