On the way to the garden supplies store this month, I was fully prepared to try from Tier 1. I thought it would be a great way for me to try some more traditional strains, so I could make better reviews. I also enjoyed the idea of saving $30 this month. Unfortunately, my plan didn’t pan out.
When I got to the store, Tier 1 only had one strain available, and it wasn’t enough for an ounce. I was instantly overwhelmed since I needed to come up with a new plan. Especially since Tier 2 was fully stocked with 10 strains to sort through. I chose Purple Plat first solely for its purple name, which was a great choice. Despite its crumbling and canoeing nature, I thought this strain was delicious, and I loved how quickly the high kicked in.
The second strain boiled down to a childish game of “eenie meenie miney mo” and I landed on Molotov Cocktail. Interestingly enough, these strains looked eerily Similar. Upon the quick first whiff, they also smelled Similar which my partner classically described as “cat piss.” Although they looked similar, they tasted and burned wildly differently.

Overall, I think I made some pretty good choices this month. With the exception of a few hiccups, which are to be expected anyway, all my purchases fell into place, and I was impressed with both the strains I purchased.
Similar to the Purple Plat I got this month, the Molotov Cocktail was a pale green. The finer details are where the strains differ, though. While Purple Plat had a few mild purple undertones, the Molotov Cocktail embraced yellows and oranges. As the name suggested, the Purple Plat had a platinum hue to it that was absolutely beautiful in a well-lit room. The Molotov Cocktail crystals were more yellow and milky white, giving it a darker hue.

Another weird coincidence between the two was how they both were dry weeds and a little tough to break up. However, the Molotov Cocktail was nowhere near as troublesome. They were also completely opposite, taste-wise as well.
The Molotov Cocktail has an airy, sour flavor. There was also a hint of nut mixed with a smidge of spiciness. Meanwhile, the Purple Plat was fruitier, with a hint of berry. While the Molotov flavor was interesting, it was light and airy, making it less powerful than the other strain. The Molotov Cocktail didn’t give me as much problems rolling and lighting like the Purple Plat did though.
The Purple Plat turned off often and canoed, which was annoying, wasted weed, and affected the high strength. I thought since these strains felt similar, I might have the same problem. Luckily, I didn’t and this strain was enjoyable overall.
According to Allbud, the Molotov Cocktail has 27% THC and is an even hybrid, created by combining:
- Sour Diesel
- Gas Mask
Overall, I think this strain was great high wise, which makes sense considering this strain has almost 10% more THC than the Purple Plat. It also felt like a good balance hybrid wise. I was still motivated to get things done around the house, but I could also relax when it was time to chill. This strain can help PTSD, fatigue, anxiety, depression, and stress. Some effects include a calming body high, feeling more sociable, uplifted, motivated, and focused.
Molotov Cocktail Personal Rating
I think most nuggets look beautiful. It’s only a matter of which ones look more pretty and unfortunately, this strain wasn’t as pretty as the Purple Plat and scored a 7 out of 10. The Aroma was a little strong and more heavily weed recognizable, so the Molotov Cocktail scored a 6 out 10. The Flavor also scored a 6 out of 10, especially paired next to the Purple Plat.
The Quality However is where this strain improved tremendously. While it had a similar texture to the Purple Plat, the Molotov Cocktail didn’t turn off as often of even canoe. The joints would stay light all the way through, so the Molotov Cocktail scored a 7/10. As a result, the improved Quality affected the Burn and High Strength scores, which both raised to 7 out of 10. Overall, that brings the Molotov Cocktail to a final score of 7.5 out of 10.
Final conclusion: It was a good strain and got the job done. I would purchase again, but it’s not one of my “favorites.” It was better quality wise than the Purple Plat, but didn’t taste as good.
